Course Overview
This module is for Nurses and Allied Healthcare Professionals wishing to develop their knowledge and skills in the management of patients with rheumatological disorders.

- Academic writing skills and preparation for assessment

- Pathophysiology and immunology for patients with musculoskeletal diagnoses
- Diagnostic investigations for patients with inflammatory and non inflammatory arthritis
- Clinical manifestations for a range of arthritides/ mixed connective tissue disease/pain syndromes
- The physical, psychological and social impact of musculoskeletal conditions on the individual and society.

Module aims
To provide the student with an academic challenge and a forum for multidisciplinary peer group discussions. By the end of the module the student will be able to:
- Critically examine the pathophysiology of inflammatory and non-inflammatory arthritis
- Demonstrate knowledge of clinical manifestations of inflammatory and non inflammatory
- Evaluate clinical manifestations of musculoskeletal pain syndromes
- Critically examine the rationale for investigatory procedures in arthritis
- Demonstrate knowledge of basic immunopathology
- Critically evaluate the impact of arthritis on the individual
- Critically evaluate the impact of arthritis on society
Entry requirements
Pre requisites: Current professional registration. Experience of routine management of patients with rheumatological conditions (minimum of 6 months).

This course is delivered online, using a blended approach of synchronous and asynchronous teaching.

The principal learning and teaching methods used in the module may include:
- Lectures, seminars and workshops: The core of each module delivery mode is a series of tutor-led or group-led seminars or workshops.
- Web-based learning using the Keele Learning Environment (KLE), Blackboard.
- Group work and peer support. All modules use focused group work and class discussions
- Directed independent study. Most of the study hours for each module comprise independent learning by expecting participants to add depth and breadth to their knowledge of topics, to practice skills and to reflect on critical incidents and their practice.
