Biography
I have been a qualified Social Worker since 1995. I graduated from The University of Central England in 1995 having studied for the Diploma in Social Work. In 2004, I studied at Staffordshire University and successfully completed a BA Honours degree in Social Work. I have worked in a variety of Adult Social Care settings for Warwickshire County Council, Staffordshire County Council and the Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. I have experience of working with various service user groups including older people, younger people with physical disabilities, learning disabilities and mental health. I have experience of working in community, hospital and intermediate care settings. I have been employed in a social work role for most of my career but have also had experience of the advanced practitioner role.
I have been a Practice Educator since 2008 and have supported students from a variety of Universities throughout the Midlands. I was awarded a Graduate certificate in Practice education in 2009. As part of my role as Practice Educator, I also have experience of assessing and mentoring practice educators working towards their practice assessor award. I have experience of supporting newly qualified through the assessed year in employment.
In 2017, I was employed with the North West Midlands Social Work Teaching Partnership. I worked with students at both Keele and Staffordshire Universities supporting the Social work programmes at both BA and MA level. I contributed to various lectures and workshops, bringing practice experience to add value to the formal academic teaching. I also worked with newly qualified and experienced practitioners in order to improve the education and training of Social Workers. While on secondment, I completed the Introduction to Teaching and Demonstrating course at keele University.
In 2019 I became a member of the fellowship of the Higher Education academy (FHEA).
